Local Learning Forum: Fife

From: March 25th 2009 until March 25th 2009

Thinking Nationally, Acting Locally

The position of the learning rep is by definition based within the locality of the workplace, while most union learners want learning to be organised at local level either in the workplace or in their local community. In response to this, the STUC, in conjunction with our affiliate unions, is looking to build a network of local forums designed to support the lifelong learning work of the union movement.

The purpose is to give Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) and others who are interested in the union learning agenda a forum where they can meet and discuss the issues they face in the workplace. We hope this will lead to the sharing of good practice and ultimately to cross-union work in the local area.

Making the Connection

The ULR is very much part of union family and we hope to use the forums as a way to connect learning with wider issues trade unions are involved in. We will look to work with trades councils, local providers sympathetic to the union cause and external organisations who share our agenda. In this way we can make the link with issues such as union organising, campaigns, school visits, everyday skills provision and many other important initiatives.

Fife Local Learning Forum

The next Fife Local Learning Forum will be held in Adam Smith College Priory Campus (Nairn Building) Victoria Road, Kirkcaldy from 10am -12.30pm.
