From: September 19th 2006 until September 19th 2006

Careers Scotland is running a pilot project called "Championing Career Planning at Work" in conjunction with the STUC. We are looking for up to 12 ULRs to take part in this project at a 1 day course to be held on 19th September. The venue has still to be confirmed, but it will be some place in central Glasgow.

The project breaks new ground by targeting employees who are the key influencers of work based learning. The course is not about ULRs delivering career planning advice but rather how to sign post members to the various professionals who provide careers advice.

We will be looking to gain feedback from those who attend this course so we can evaluate whether we can offer the course to a wider trade union membership.

Careers Scotland will deliver a free one day course that will train ULRs as Career Planning Champions so they are able to promote and support a culture of career planning and learning in the workplace.

The course will cover the introduction to careers guidance in general, and to specific Careers Scotland tools and resources that could support the work of ULRs in the workplace. This will include an introduction to the "Careers Planning Journey" - clarification of the issues related to boundaries and referral, and identification of a range of organisations and resources that will provide additional guidance and support.

This course is aimed at the more experienced and proactive ULR so it will not be suitable for everyone.
