NEW STUC SKILLS AND LIFELONG LEARNING TEAM PUT BEST FOOT FORWARD IN 2006

The Scottish TUC have appointed a new Skills and Lifelong Learning Team based at the Scottish Trade Union Centre in Woodlands Road, Glasgow.

Building upon the success of the previous Lifelong Learning Unit the new Team is funded by the Scottish Executive, Equal, and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. Leading the Team as Lifelong Learning Manager is Sylvia O'Grady, who will be responsible for developing and managing the strategic policy and operational aims of the team, as well as working on behalf of the trade union movement to secure resources for the overall development of union-led learning.

Through the Skills and Lifelong Learning Team the STUC will ensure the trade union movement in Scotland play a pivotal role in encouraging and supporting workers to develop their learning and skills. The Team is developing a range of services and activities to ensure the STUC achieve this goal in conjunction with establishing the foundations of a Scottish Union Academy and supporting Scottish Union Learning Fund project programmes.

Sylvia O'Grady, Skills and Lifelong Learning Manager said:

"The new STUC Skills and Lifelong Learning Team provide a tremendous opportunity to benefit both union members and ultimately Scottish society as a whole. The entire team is delighted to be on the forefront of union-led learning and will put their best foot forward in 2006."
