STUC on Critical Role of Union Learning in Economic Recovery

November 18th 2009

For Immediate Release

Addressing the Scottish Union Learning Conference in the Apex City Hotel on Thursday (19th November), the STUC will renew its call on the Scottish Government to set up a campaign aimed specifically at employers to encourage continued investment in training during the recession.

Speaking before his keynote speech to the Scottish Union Learning Conference, STUC General Secretary Grahame Smith said:

“The evidence shows that employers who invest in training emerge stronger from recession. However, we are seeing increasingly worrying signs that employers are reluctant to continue training the workforce. The Scottish Government must promote employer investment in skills and training now to help speed along the economic recovery.”
