Do you want to develop your interest in writing, photography and the internet into professional skills and a qualification that is valued by employers?

We are offering a unique opportunity to gain the National Certificate in Creative Industries at SCQF Level 5 for workers in the Highlands and Islands.

The course is sponsored by Scottish Union Learning and will be delivered by Inverness College UHI. The course is free to both union members and young workers not currently in a union and you can fit your study around your current job while finding your creative strengths that will support you in moving forward in your chosen career.

Over 12 units this part-time online course will help you build your skills to research, create and edit local news content for the web and social media and provide insights into creative career options. The online learning will be supplemented by workshops in Inverness with industry experts from the NUJ (National Union of Journalists), BECTU (the entertainment union) and others.

Entry to the course will be by application form and interview. We want to hear from you if:

  • You are a young worker not in school or full-time study
  • You are an enthusiastic user of social media, using your smartphone or tablet to create written and visual content
  • You are already working in a creative role and want to broaden your skills/gain a qualification; OR you aspire to a creative career and need entry-level industry skills or a stepping stone to further study in the creative sector
  • You have a minimum of Core Skills in Communications at Level 4 or English at Intermediate 1 or NC Level 4
  • You are 100% committed to completing this 18-month course to support your career in the Creative Industries
