Modern Apprenticeship Project

The Scottish Union Learning Modern Apprenticeship Project began in June 2010 to develop and increase trade union activity and engagement with the Modern Apprenticeship programme in Scotland.

The aims of the Modern Apprenticeship Project are to:

• identify the level of union awareness of and involvement in the Modern Apprenticeship programme in Scotland;
• identify examples of good practice by unions in engaging and supporting Modern Apprentices and build a national bank of such case studies;
• raise awareness levels amongst unions of the benefits of Modern Apprenticeships through the development and delivery of workshops and seminars;
• support unions to raise awareness of workers rights and the role of unions with Modern Apprentices;
• raise awareness of equality and diversity issues in Modern Apprenticeships; and
• develop resources for union negotiators and reps.

Modern Apprenticeship Toolkit

The Modern Apprenticeship Toolkit provides an overview of Modern Apprenticeships and outlines how unions can successfully engage with the programme. The toolkit has three publications, each of which can be downloaded here:

The Modern Apprenticeship Toolkit;

Modern Apprenticeship Case Studies; and

Your Rights as a Modern Apprentice.
