Launch of Union Learning Development Days
Project Workers/Union Learning Organisers worked with Scottish Union Learning to develop a series of Union Learning Development Days (ULDDs) across LUPs. ULRs were keen to have ongoing skills development programmes delivered in their local areas, building on a similar model to SUL’s previous Local Learning Forums.
SUL organised a Short Life Working Group with unions to ensure the locations and agendas met with the demand from ULRs. The Autumn iteration of the ULDDs were delivered in Aberdeen, Fife & Tayside and Glasgow.
As part of the ULDDs, Trades Union Councils were invited to deliver a presentation on local trade union activity. ULRs in attendance were keen to ensure their branches are affiliated to their local Trades Council, and to have their branches support the local activity.

Digital Skills Education delivered workshops focussing on Artificial Intelligence (AI), which were well received and created discussion on how unions can respond to the emerging issues, uses and challenges of AI within their workplaces and communities.
ULRs and Project Workers/Union Learning Organisers were keen to share good practice in organising union-led learning in their workplaces, to develop local networks of ULRs and to feed into the development of the Scottish Union Learning Conference.
ULRs came forward with ideas and demands for skills-based workshops at future ULDDs, which SUL have listened to. SUL are currently working on a Spring iteration of ULDDs, returning to the same locations while assessing feasibility of a further roll-out to additional areas.
