Equality Rep Development Workshop A Success!

A workplace scenario being acted out by Theatre&

Scottish Union Learning's development session for Equality Reps proved a great success on January 29th at the Teachers Building in Glasgow.

In a session delivered by Theatre&, Equality Reps and other reps who were interested in promoting the role in their workplaces discussed equality and diversity and the barriers facing Equality Reps in Scottish workplaces.

Forming part of the Equality Rep Development Project funded by the Scottish Government, this session was a drama-based workshop which encouraged discussion and interaction from the participants instead of passive attendance.

Attendees were welcomed by Wendy Burton, the Director of Scottish Union Learning, and Laura Dougan, from the Scottish Government, before taking part in various sessions and workshops over the course of the day.

Discussions considered employers and unions attitudes to equality and diversity, how to overcome complacency, tackling unconscious bias and what would be the best support that could be provided to promote more active and effective Equality Reps in Scottish workplaces.

The session will be followed up by further sessions in February and March as the learning from these sessions, and other meetings, is forged into recommendations for both the Scottish Trades Union Congress and the Scottish Government.
