Virtual Bookclub: Haiku writing with Alan Spence (Book Week Scotland/NUJ event)

November 17, 2025, 19.00 – 20.00
Online, via Zoom
The NUJ is delighted to announce that Alan Spence will be the guest speaker at this year’s Virtual Book Club to celebrate Book Week Scotland. A multi-award winning poet, short story writer, novelist and playwright, Alan was Professor of Creative Writing at Aberdeen University and director of Aberdeen’s WORD festival. A former Scottish Writer of the Year and Edinburgh Makar, he is well known for his interest in Japanese culture and his skill in writing haiku, a short form poem that usually has just three lines.
Alan will present a session on how to get started writing haiku on Monday, 17th November at 7pm. The session is supported by the Scottish Book Trust and there is no charge for attendance. To get a rough idea of numbers, it would be useful if you could register interest by emailing a line with your name to cdev2112@aol.com, but the Zoom link for the session is below and you can just turn up on the night if you find you are able to join. All are welcome at book week events so please feel free to share the link.
