Update from the Open University in Scotland

Here is the latest information from the Open University in Scotland on course deadlines, new learning opportunities and available funding.

Course registration closes soon.

Register for February 2023 courses by Thursday, 12 January 2023. You may qualify for the 10% trade union member discount if your personal income is more than £25K for your first module at level 1 (please state on the registration form that you would like to claim the union discount and provide a copy of your union ID card).

Part-time Fee Grant (PTFG)

If your personal income is less than £25,000 you may be eligible for a PTFG for your studies. The Open University has a useful step-by-step guide on how to apply for the grant.

Open University Microcredentials

Once again, there is an opportunity to apply for funded places on Open University Microcredentials, including at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. The list of Microcredentials which are available has changed, currently there are 19 Microcredentials to choose from.

An increasing number of union learners have completed enough Microcredentials to have gained the equivalent number of points required for a Postgraduate Certificate (although currently, the completion of these programmes does not directly entitle the learners to a PgCert).

For information on the available Microcredentials, eligibility criteria, and how to apply click here. If applying, it is helpful to demonstrate the impact of the programme on your workplace skills.

Please note: this is a significant personal time commitment on a weekly basis for 12 consecutive weeks.

Union-led study groups have previously been organised for Microcredentials, with positive feedback from learners. If you are successful your application, please email Tommy Breslin, Senior Development Officer at Scottish Union Learning, and we will try to support in forming a study group.
