Nominations now open for the 2024 STUC Union Rep Awards
The nomination process for the 2024 STUC Union Rep Awards and SUL Learner of the Year Award is now open. Scottish Union Learning manages the delivery of three of these awards: the Scottish Union Learning Learner of the Year Award, the STUC Helen Dowie Award for Lifelong Learning, and the STUC Equality Award.
Unions are invited to submit nominations before the deadline of Friday, 02 February 2024.
The awards will be presented at STUC Congress, between 15-17 April 2024, in Dundee.
Scottish Union Learning are looking for nominations for each of the following:
Learner of the Year Award – We aim to recognise and celebrate the achievements of trade union learners across Scotland. This year the Learner of the Year Award is sponsored by The Open University in Scotland.
STUC Equality Award – We aim to recognise an individual or group who has made a difference, and who brings energy, enthusiasm and new ideas to promoting equality and tackling discrimination. This year the Equality Award is sponsored by TUC Education in Scotland.
STUC Helen Dowie Award for Lifelong Learning – We aim to recognise outstanding trade unionists who continue to demonstrate their commitment to union values and lead the learning movement forward in Scotland. This year the Helen Dowie Award for Lifelong Learning is sponsored by TUC Education in Scotland.

Unions may nominate an individual or group of reps for the Helen Dowie Award and Equality Award. For the Learner of the Year Award, nominations on behalf of a group of learners will only be considered where it can be clearly demonstrated that the collective experience was the most significant factor of the group’s learning journey.
All unions are encouraged to submit at least one nomination in recognition of the success of their learners and reps and the role the union has played in their journey. A case study providing information on the nominee(s) and the support provided by the union will be used in future SUL publications and will feature on the website.
The closing date for nominations is Friday, 02 February 2024.
Nomination forms, information and guidance can be found in the 'Resources' section of this web page.
