Power Up in UNISON at Belladrum in Inverness

August 3rd 2010

For Immediate Release

UNISON, Scotland's largest public sector trade union, will be tweeting, Facebooking, and YouTubing at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival 2010 which is taking place in Beauly this weekend, Friday 6th and Saturday 7th August.

UNISON wants to reach out to members and potential members and to build support in our communities to save our public services. It will also be telling workers about the opportunities to engage in learning through Scottish Union Learning, including funding information for courses. Scottish Union Learning is also sponsoring a comedy workshop.

UNISON will be using modern media techniques to get across the message that Scotland’s public services - health, education and care for the elderly - are now under attack. UNISON is sponsoring the mobile phone charger area, so festival-goers will be able to power up their phones and connect with the union to support local communities and save public services. Also on the weekend’s digital agenda is information on trade union learning, an alternative budget, public works, a million voices for change and much more.

Jenny Roberts, UNISON Highland Branch's Young Members Officer, and UNISON’s representative on the Scottish TUC’s Youth Committee said:

“Belladrum's going to be a great chance to meet people out of the workplace and highlight issues affecting them! I'm looking forward to meeting young workers and giving young people a voice in the 'votes at 16' debate!"
