STUC. Scottish Union Learning. The learning force behind Scotland's workers.
Supporting Trade Unions in Scotland
Across Scotland, trade unions and employers are working together to make union learning a success. Trade unions are most effective with strong membership involvement and activism. Union Learning Representatives help build and support a learning culture within their workplaces. Just as learning and skills are central to an employee’s progression at work and in life, Union Learning Representatives are the key to the development of lifelong learning in Scottish workplaces. Union Learning Representatives are uniquely positioned to increase member involvement within the union and to educate members about its wider role in other areas, including securing pay and working conditions and mainstreaming equalities and social justice.
Throughout this website, we can experience a taste of the wide and varied range of learning activity in which unions are currently involved, and an illustration of the crucial role unions play in enhancing learning and skills. Scottish Union Learning is providing support to trade unions to help spread the lifelong learning message to the workforce throughout Scotland. In partnership with colleges, universities, Sector Skills Councils, funding bodies and specialist organisations, and with financial support from the Learning Fund and Development Funds, trade unions are making significant progress in providing opportunities to union members in Scotland.
