A just transition for the Highlands and Islands: green jobs, skills and support
April 25, 2023, 14.00 – 15.00
Online, Zoom
The importance of fair, decent and sustainable work as part of a just transition continues to gather attention in Scotland. Within this, there is an emerging recognition that ‘green jobs’ encompass a wide range of sectors going far beyond energy jobs. As part of our climate change response, new jobs may emerge, other jobs may change, and some jobs may be phased out.
The aim of this session, lead by Dr Leslie Mabon from The Open University, is to explore what the climate challenge may mean for the Highlands and Islands, and to discuss the skills, training and support that are required to ensure Scotland’s climate response benefits the different kinds of communities we have in the Highlands and Islands.
In this session, we will focus in particular on how climate impacts and opportunities may differ across the region, and on the importance of skills for climate adaptation and resilience alongside emissions reduction.
