IET Glasgow: Teacher Building, Glasgow

Scottish Union Learning is organising an Equality Rep Development Session at the IET Teacher Building in Glasgow on Friday, January 27th 2017. This is for existing or prospective Equality Reps or reps who are particularly interested in equality and diversity. The development day will provide practical skills and the opportunity to put these skills in action through Interactive Learning Solutions drama-based delivery.

The two pilot sessions organised in 2016 were very well received, and we hope that this event will be of real benefit to Equality Reps, particularly those who have struggled to access training or development opportunities for their role or who would like to meet others who are in the same role from different unions.

Session Objectives:

• To explore equality representatives responsibilities and expectations, detailing relevant avenues of support
• To identify effective behaviours and proactive management tools to assist equality representatives to achieve their responsibilities
• To explore the potential impact and consequences of unconscious bias within the working environment
• To recognise inappropriate behaviour and identify how to challenge / deliver a difficult message effectively and with confidence

Previous attendees at these sessions have found them very useful and they have went back into their workplaces with a different approach to their role as you can see from the evaluation screenshots from the previous session.

This event is part of the Scottish Union Learning Equality Rep Development Project. To confirm your place, please contact Alan White, Scottish Union Learning Development Officer, by email at awhite@stuc.org.uk.
