Citizen Literacy - New Phonics App
There are over six million people of working age in the UK who struggle with their reading and writing skills – about 15 percent of the population. Citizen Literacy has developed an innovative phonics app to help adults learn to read and write, which is supported by tutor resources and materials.
Lessons 1 to 5 are now available on Google Play and the Apple App Store The lessons include voice and handwriting recognition exercises, and video clips highlighting useful hints and tips about how to improve literacy skills.

in Scotland and Glasgow Trades Union Council to create the Women in Scotland
1900-2020: Workplace Struggles Project.
The main aim of the project is to locate, create and collate a range of accessible learning materials on the theme of women and workplace struggle, which will eventually be available on OpenLearn as a single collection.

The recipient of the 2020 STUC Helen Dowie Award for Lifelong Learning is Shenaz Boyce, Unite the Union, who works in security at Glasgow Airport.
Development Fund/Learning Fund 2021/2023 Criteria Launch
In recent years, the Scottish Government has provided funding to the STUC to promote, develop, and support trade union-led learning and skills. This has been taken forward by Scottish Union Learning through two main funds: the Development Fund, which facilitates the development of infrastructure within trade unions and supports the organisation and delivery of trade union-led learning in the workplace, and the Learning Fund, which provides funds to support the learning activity.
